En couleurs (2024)
En couleurs, or in English In Colours, is inspired by Claude Monet's Waterloo Bridge series (a part of his London series). The series consists of 41 oil paintings of the old Waterloo Bridge in London, which Monet painted over the period between 1900 and 1904 from the same hotel room. As a result, all the paintings in the series present the same perspective of the same bridge, but with different weather and lighting.
The 6 sections of En couleurs are matched with 6 different paintings from the series. Each section shares the same main theme, but presents the theme in different tonality, mood and colours. This composition aims to portray the same idea, the main theme, painted "in (different) colours".
Spellbound (2023)
Spellbound depicts the state of being enchanted, as if casted by a spell. Unexpected modulations and harmonic progressions bring moments of surprise, which are further enhanced by occasional dissonance and varying harmonic colours.
The piece begins with a slow introduction, indicated as Andante espressivo, then moves into the Allegro, which is written in sonata form with two main themes. The first theme is more rhythmic and agitated while the more lyrical second theme is taken from the melody previously heard in the introduction. The feeling of excitement comes with the perpetual nature of this fast section; with the exception of a few pauses, the music continuously moves forward, sometimes with restlessness.
The composition earned the Fifth Degree at the XVII Golden Key Piano Composition Competition in the Young Artist International category In 2024.
